In Task Force Dagger, you are heading to Afghanistan to fight in missions inspired by Operation Enduring Freedom - which may suggest to some that NovaLogic is simply trying to take advantage of the tragic events of the real world. NovaLogic touts the game as a tribute to the heroes of the conflict, but Task Force Dagger simply treats the subject with cold, boring sterility. As for the story and setting go, it is one of the most uninvolving tactical shooters in a long time. In Task Force Dagger, you'll head to places like Kandahar, where you can destroy sites Sat In Mazar-e Sharif, you try to capture an enemy commander. In Bagh-e Daud, you try to save a journalist.
Despite this apparent diversity, many missions are the same: Approach a compound, snipe the guys that are just standing around, move around, blowing some guys are that are just standing around, and seize documents or something explode . The fact that you do most of these things without AI companions is both dull and unrealistic. As for multiplayer, it's pretty decent for a short time but eventually all the same kind of thing you have played many times before: capture the flag, king of the hill, deathmatch, etc.. Delta Force: Land Warrior is probably best known for his atrocious enemy AI. The total ineptitude of your opponents often made the game feel more like a glorified shooting gallery of a real tactical shooter. Task Force Dagger offers little, if any, improved AI. If the enemy hits you, it's only because they outnumber you roughly.
They are easy prey to mindless shouting for no reason, just to draw attention to themselves, or stand motionless when you shoot one of their buddies in the same room. You have the chance to "fight" the enemies as one of 10 groups of Special Forces, Green Berets as American or British SAS. Each group has special abilities, such as swimming improved (not exactly in demand in the mountains of Afghanistan) or the ability to withstand more damage (apparently Marines have a thicker skin). Each group has its favorite weapons, but exactly how these preferences affect the gameplay is never made clear, for it is quite easy to hit targets with any weapon.
